Episode 8 - Teamwork on set

Show Notes

Actor Erik Thomson is no stranger to being part of a team, whether that be on the production set of a feature film or TV series. In his conversation with Dan and Pia, Erik discusses the importance of recognising everyone's role in a production, from lighting a scene to walking the red carpet at Cannes. For Erik, building a solid working team is about breaking social barriers away from work. He emphasises the importance of clearing the eyeline so the actors can work distraction-free, and explores the role of psychological safety on set, especially when the action gets a bit more steamy.

Meet the guests

Erik Thomson is a Scottish-born, New Zealand-raised actor who has worked extensively on both sides of the Tasman for over 30 years. With a background in theatre (Hamlet, Angels in America, Twelve Angry Men) he made the move to screen in 1995 and has since appeared in over 550 hours of TV drama. Winning the Australian equivalent of a best actor Emmy for “All Saints” (2003) and “800 Words” (2015), Erik has recently began producing his own work in the blackly comedic culinary offering ‘Aftertaste’. Other of his most recent work includes the BBC’s period epic “The Luminaries” as dastardly pimp Dick Mannering, 2021 Sundance thriller “Coming Home in the Dark” and 2020 Venice Film Festival alumni “The Furnace”.
