Episode 27 - Coaching challenging teams

Show Notes

Jackie Weaver became an Internet sensation in February 2022, when her handling of a parish council meeting – and the councillors’ reaction to it – went viral. But Jackie has decades of experience coaching teams of all sizes, which she shares with Dan and Pia.

Takeaways from Dan and Pia

  • It’s easy to overlook the amount of ground we share, when in disagreement.
  • Sometimes it takes a third party to help us see the common ground.
  • Experience can bring with it a degree of calmness when approaching difficult situations.
  • Jackie used her Internet fame as a platform to raise awareness of the work she and people like her do, across the country.

Meet the guests

Involved in the Local Council Sector for over 25 years, Jackie has served as a councillor, a clerk and (until the present day) as Chief Officer for the Cheshire Association of Local Councils. Jackie's role involves providing support, information, guidance and training to the Town and Parish Councils of Cheshire. She enjoys being a facilitator assisting them to develop and deliver their potential.
Jackie holds the Certificate of Local Council Administration (CiLCA) and has recently completed her BSc in Counselling and is a qualified Mediator. Jackie finds that the skills and knowledge learned during that time have held her in good stead in the job she does. Ultimately it is people that will make the difference in any situation. Since a video of a Local Council Meeting that she was facilitating went viral Jackie has enjoyed many public engagements both in the media and on TV and have a well received podcast (@jackieweaverpod) and have written a little book of common sense.
Through the media Jackie encourages greater awareness and participation in Local Democracy and in particular promoting greater diversity in the sector.
