Episode 20 – Critical team with Martin Bromiley

Pia and Dan are joined by Martin Bromiley OBE, airline captain, charity trustee, and public speaker whose story of loss has fuelled much of the work he does today.
In 2005, Martin’s wife Elaine was admitted to hospital following an emergency that occurred while she was under anaesthetic. During the investigation into her death, Martin identified that Elaine’s death was due to failures in the way the surgical staff operated as a cohesive team.
Now, using his experience within aviation, he works with organisations to help teams get things right in critical situations.
Meet the guests
Martin is a Training Captain for a major international airline, specialising in human performance and safety. As the result of a personal tragedy in 2005 he founded the Clinical Human Factors Group, a charity which not only has had a major influence on healthcare policy and thinking in the UK but has also directly saved lives around the world. Martin now shares his time between his flying role, his voluntary work in healthcare, as well speaking to a wide range of international organisations about matters of safety, leadership, just culture and resilience.
