Social entrepreneur David Burns sees that in the work he does to help strengthen teams, viewed through the prism of sport. In his conversation with Pia and Dan, David highlights the importance of respecting and honouring people’s cultural values within teams, even at the risk of his work being misinterpreted r met with resistance.

David has worked in the leisure, health and well-being industry in England and Australia for 21 years, in roles spanning Local Government, peak bodies, private sector and the social economy.
Operating from two platforms – DB Consulting works with government, peak bodies and universities on specific commissions, and Collective Leisure co-creates programs that work for communities through a ‘systems’ approach. Collective Leisure is Australia’s first social enterprise leisure management company. Their work is focused on providing education, services, and opportunities to those most in need.
With a why to reduce physical inactivity and improve population health, whilst providing access to training and employment for people from marginalised communities. This is summarised in their purpose statement of “enabling well-being without boundaries”.
